Tectonic Plates                                         Written by: Bob Hamilton

You stole my breath, standing there
Beneath the glittering sky
Millions of stars up above
I could hardly believe it
To have you by my side
Starstruck and giddy with love

Many others before you
But they were never enough
I couldn’t wait to adore you
When we became a continent

Like honey bees, like manatees
Like the birds in the sky
We knew what to do without trying
It’s such a wonderful feeling
With moonbeams in your eyes
To soar on the highest of highs

But we had our suspicions
Perfection comes at a price
Nothing lasts forever
And there would come a time….

Tectonic plates, slowly drifting apart
Tectonic plates, slowly drifting apart
Tectonic plates, slowly drifting apart
Tectonic plates, slowly drifting apart

We’ve weathered too many storms
We’ve been through too many droughts
They silenced the song in our hearts
Though we belong to each other
We’re helpless in the drift
That steadily tears us apart

As you fade in the distance
As you begin to recede
As you crest the horizon
I’m pulled the other way

Tectonic plates, slowly drifting apart
Tectonic plates, slowly drifting apart
Tectonic plates, slowly drifting apart
Tectonic plates, slowly drifting apart
