Slow Burner Written by: Bob Hamilton
Five o’clock in the morning, the dawn is scraping my eyes.
Need another few hours, but I can’t sleep with all the noise outside.
The chorus is belting it out. The milkman is starting his round.
Find myself drifting, I dreamt I was washed up and
lost on a distant shore.
I wake up and see you asleep and
I know that I don’t have to worry no more.
I am a slow burner, I realise
that when we’re together I come alive – I come alive.
It’s Saturday evening, the weekend is passing us by.
Jump the fast train to Brighton; we get there in the twinkling of an eye.
The seagulls are making that sound. The people are milling around.
I was confused, I was wrapped up in blues, I was limping from day to day.
You took me on and you made me be strong
Just listen to me say.
I am a fast learner, I compromise
United, together, we come alive
We run for the last train, only to watch the red tail lights depart.
So we head for the beach and we lie beneath the moon and all those stars.
Talking and laughing out loud. Crazy and happy and proud.
Far out at sea in the dark I imagine the passing of ships in the night
That used to be me, now it’s hard to believe that everything’s all right
I am a slow burner, I realise
That when we’re together I come alive – I come alive.
